Wayfarer is an audiovisual fulldome performance that invites audiences to journey alongside an AI generated being inspired by Tiangou, a mythical creature from ancient Chinese cosmology. Drawing from data from The Classic of Mountains and Seas, the work uses AI to reinterpret ancient mythological forms, allowing new speculative beings to emerge from collective memory. In traditional interpretations, Tiangou embodies a dual nature. As an unknown celestial entity, it has been seen both as a guardian descending from the cosmos and as a force capable of devouring the moon and disrupting the human world. This ambiguity becomes central to the work. Throughout the performance, the creature appears as a luminous presence that continuously transforms across shifting cosmic environments, guided by curiosity yet shadowed by uncertainty. Its evolving form reflects both protection and destruction, familiarity and alienation. The journey culminates as it consumes the moon and becomes the new moon, reflecting on how we encounter the unknown and imagine new forms of coexistence with intelligent systems.
